ABSTRACT In this work we explore a few aspects of the problem of mobility in the great metropolis of São Paulo, pointing out that the subway has been playing an important role in the general organization of public transit in the city. We indicate that defining the subway as network is, to a certain extent, to conceive it as a means of communication: an ensemble of interconnected points that works through communicative circuits of both human and machinic interfaces. Subsequently, we search to understand — relying on results of an ethnographic research, and along a discussion on characteristics of urban infrastructures — the impacts of the implementation of Line 4-Amarela, fully automatic and operated by the private sector, on São Paulo subway, specially as it interferes, in various ways, in its network properties.Downloads
