Abstract

Introduction: In other viral infections during pregnancy, there is an association between the disease and specific placental findings, however knowledge is still limited in relation to COVID-19. Objective: the objeticve of this work was to analyze the existence of placental changes in pregnant women who contracted COVID-19, as well as to evaluate the correlation with clinical manifestations and comorbidities of the binomial. Methodology: this is a retrospective cross-sectional analytical observational study, which analyzed 81 placentas from pregnant women who met the eligibility criteria, in addition to analyzing statistical data using Microsoft Excel® and JAMOVI® software. Results: 46.91% of pregnant women presented the disease in the third trimester of pregnancy, while 33.33% presented it in the second trimester; and 9.8% in the first trimester. In the anatomopathological analysis, the majority of placentas showed gross calcifications and increased levels of subchorionic fibrin. Conclusion: the existence of anatomopathological changes in the placentas of pregnant women infected with COVID-19 was observed, however other studies are needed to test the direct association.
