Avaliação do uso de psicofármacos no município de Palmeira (PR)

Abstract

Introduction: Mental disorders are responsible for bringing physical and emotional imbalance to people, and psychodrugs are efficient in treating them. However, the success of this therapy depends on the patient's adherence to treatment, which is medium and long term, requiring daily use of medications. Objective: to evaluate the use and adherence to treatment of patients in use of psychodrugs, characterizing the sociodemographic profile and pharmacological treatment. Methodology: cross-sectional and descriptive research, with a quantitative approach, carried out in the Central Basic Pharmacy of Palmeira-PR. 221 individuals over 18 years of age who had been using psychodrugs for more than a month were included. Data were collected through interviews and application of the Treatment Adherence Measure test (MAT). Results: 76,5% of the participants were women; 46,6% were between 50 and 64 years old; 60,2% were married/living in stable union; 66,9% had education up to elementary school; 29% were retired/pensioner. The most reported mental disorders were anxiety, depression and insomnia. Treatment adherence was 81.4%, but the bivariate analysis of the sociodemographic profile with the treatment adherence showed statistical significance only with the variable age (p=0,015). Regardless of frequency, more than 50% of the patient reported forgetting to take the medication, characterizing it as an important factor that interferes in treatment adherence. Conclusion: the identification of factors related to low adherence to treatment is important for planning and improving the pharmaceutical care, and this study fulfills this role, as it will contribute to the management of the patients in use of psychodrugs of the municipal, improving the service provided to the population.
