Interferência do aparelho fotopolimerizador e envelhecimento térmico na aparência de restaurações adesivas

Introduction: Composite resin restorations (CR) reproduce the optical properties of natural teeth, but their appearance may change due to characteristics related to the material. Objective: to evaluate the interference of the color of the adhesive system (AS) and the type of light-curing device in the final color of aesthetic restorations. Methodology: 80 previously bleached bovine enamel fragments were distributed into 4 groups: G1) SA with APS photoinitiator + neutral translucent RC; G2) SA with APS photoinitiator + B1 enamel RC; G3) SE with camphorquinone photoinitiator + neutral translucent RC; G4) SE with camphorquinone photoinitiator + B1 enamel RC. Each group was subdivided according to the photoactivator used (monowave or polywave LED). The samples were thermally aged and then the color, luminosity, and Delta E were evaluated three times: before restoration (Delta E1), after restoration (Delta E2), and after thermal aging (Delta E3). Statistical analysis was performed (Anova with Repeated Measures in Time/Tukey, alpha=5%). Results: After aging, the luminosity of G4 was statistically higher than G1 and G3. Thermal aging increased the luminosity in most of the situations tested. The variation between Delta E1 and Delta E2 indicated differences between the groups polymerized by polywave, with significantly lower G2 values than G1. Conclusion: The samples' luminosity and Delta E do not appear to be influenced by the color of the AS. The presence of color in the CR seems to be directly related to the luminosity and Delta E of the restoration.
