Introduction: Klebsiella pneumoniae is on the World Health Organisation's list of critically prioritised bacteria due to its diverse antibiotic resistance mechanisms. Resistant isolates have been highlighted for their association with the treatment of difficult-to-eliminate infections. Objective: to evaluate the susceptibility profile of two K. pneumoniae isolates from wild animals (salamanta and parrot), as well as a human isolate, for comparison. Methodology: a disk diffusion test was performed on each isolate against fourteen antibiotics. Results: distinct antimicrobial susceptibility profiles were found for each isolate, particularly the human isolate, which showed resistance to ten of the tested antibiotics, while the salamanta isolate was resistant to four, and the parrot isolate to three. The salamanta isolate showed sensitivity with increased exposure to imipenem and meropenem, while the parrot isolate was susceptible to these antibiotics. Conclusion: the different antibiotic susceptibility profile of each isolate reinforces the need for these tests for effective treatment and highlights the importance of proper wildlife management.
