This paper concerns the processes of contemporary urban transformation through the analysis of three American movies of the nineties, Grand Canyon (1991), Short Cuts (1993) and Magnolia (1999). Our purpose is to identify, besides the evident aesthetic unity, a pattern of thematic recurrences that define the metropolitan experience of Los Angeles. In order to achieve this, we approach the city of Los Angeles and some of its cinematographic representations via the concept of postmetropolis (Edward Soja).Downloads
