This article presents analytic methods developed within the Research Group on Media & Popular Music (Graduate Program in Contemporary Culture and Communications – Federal University of Bahia – Brazil). The proposed methodology seeks to use the media analysis of pop music as a starting point for an analysis of the cultural aspects of youth-oriented phenomena. Our work will draw upon the work of Frith (1998) and its contribution to the analysis of musical genres, on the notion of musical experience developed in Berger (1999), on the hermeneutic methods elaborated by Brackett (2000) and on the contributions to musical semiotics developed by Fabbri (2000) and Veron (1996).Downloads
