Abstract

The study analyzes the journalistic coverage of the protests that occurred in Mozambique from October to December 2024, comparing two television channels in terms of their approaches: TV Sucesso, a local television station, and DW Africa, an international platform. The study identified editorial, narrative, and framing differences, highlighting how each addressed themes such as popular mobilization, social and political demands, and state repression. While TV Sucesso provided coverage more aligned with state authorities, emphasizing stability and minimizing criticism of the government, DW Africa adopted a more critical perspective, giving voice to protesters and denouncing human rights violations. The analysis also reveals the impact of international media on the visibility of the protests and the strengthening of public debate. This analysis is based on the methodology of discourse analysis, following Michel Foucault’s theoretical perspective, to explore the discursive strategies and regimes of truth underlying the representations constructed by these outlets. Thus, the central aim of this study is to analyze the journalistic coverage of the protests in Mozambique from October to December 2024, comparing how TV Sucesso and DW Africa approached the events. The study concludes that the divergence in approaches reflects the limitations imposed by the local political context and underscores the importance of independent media in promoting a more plural and democratic narrative.
