WATCH TOGETHER, FROM A DISTANCE: FILM SOCIETY AND DIGITAL PLATFORMS IN THE CONTEXT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Abstract

The article presents the results of a survey on the on line actions of film clubs in the state of Espírito Santo during the covid-19 pandemic. In the first sections, we present some work related to our research, and talk about the relationships between film society, networked audiovisual culture and territory. Further on, data collected through documentary research and in-depth interviews with representatives of five film clubs are made available. The study managed to identify 117 film clubs that operated in Espírito Santo between 2003 and 2022, 29 of which had activities on-line during the pandemic. Finally, we conclude that the tendency of film clubs in the post-pandemic period is to focus on face-to-face meetings, contrary to excessive connectivity.

Author Biography

Daniela Zanetti, Federal University of Espírito Santo (Ufes)

Associate Professor at the Department of Social Communication at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) and the Postgraduate Program in Communication and Territorialities (Póscom-UFES). PhD in Contemporary Communication and Culture from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). Master of Arts from Mackenzie University. Graduated in Journalism from the Federal University of Espírito Santo. She has experience in the area of communication and culture, with an emphasis on studies on audiovisual narratives. During his doctorate, he developed research on audiovisual production in the peripheries and is currently investigating the relationships between audiovisual (cinema and TV) and cyberculture, transformations of audiovisuality in the interface with cyberculture and the social, cultural, economic and political phenomena arising from this process, focusing on studies on modes of production and consumption of audiovisual materials that engender new discursive and narrative forms; sociabilities and new territorialities in the context of cyberculture; peripheral narratives and the discourse of minorities, especially from the study of processes and products linked to the field of audiovisual and cyberculture. She coordinates the research group on Audiovisual Culture and Technology (CAT).
