Mentoring Program: definitions, roles to be played, models and benefits

Abstract

Mentoring is a concept widely discussed in various organizations and different contexts. In this context, the objective of this study was to seek a comprehensive understanding of the topic of Mentoring, addressing its definitions, models, roles played by those involved and the possible associated benefits. The methodology adopted for this study was qualitative in nature, using a narrative and integrative bibliographic review. This study is part of the partial results of dissertation research within the scope of the Master's program in Knowledge Management in Organizations. The results obtained emphasize Mentoring as a flexible, effective and relevant strategy in different situations. Therefore, this study concludes that, regardless of the specific approaches to implementing mentoring programs, the end result always converges to knowledge sharing, resulting in learning and self-development. Furthermore, mentoring is also effective in promoting the development of socio-emotional, academic or professional skills, through socialization and interpersonal interaction. In summary, the findings of this study demonstrate that discussions about mentoring models and their contributions have gained prominence and that the practical application of mentoring is providing a deeper and more enlightening understanding of the topic, especially for the academic community.
