The controversial debate about the presence of transgender people in Candomblé has intensified in recentyears. To collaborate to this debate, this article discusses some ideas present in the terreiro that have been tensioned
in the debate, starting from how terreiros operate regarding their African inheritances to think about reality. The
understanding of tradition, the placement of the body in the terreiro and the impacts of bodily modifications, the
functions of clothing and the attribution of positions offer means to interface the debate with trans experiences in
terreiros, seeking to avoid the colonization of the elements of the debate, while considering the dimension of
welcoming, which has historically characterized the space of the terreiros.
