Abstract

This experience report describes the implementation process of the pilot project Assisted Housing: Reinventing Pathways, developed in Salvador/BA starting in 2023. The initiative is inspired by the international Housing First model, which frames immediate access to housing as a central care strategy for people experiencing homelessness, particularly those with a chronic history of vulnerability and abusive use of psychoactive substances. The paper presents the project’s design, the implementation context, and its main phases, highlighting the advances achieved and the challenges encountered throughout the process. The results highlight the feasibility of a new intervention model in Brazil, however, the need for continuous planning and greater intersectoral integration is emphasized to ensure its sustainability as a multicentric public policy.
