LANGUAGE IN THREE MOMENTS OF LINGUISTIC SCIENCE

This work analyzes the notion of language in three currents of linguistic thought, namely, Sociolinguistic, Materialist Discourse Analysis and Dialogical Discourse Analysis. Thus, it aims, in general, to verify how these theories conceive the notion of language. For this, the study follows the methodology of descriptive qualitative research, because it seeks to characterize the understanding about the concept, through the review of founding key works, in the three different theoretical perspectives, proposing, as needed, a dialogue with the Saussurian section in the study of language as well as with the theories developed in other fields of the humanities. At the end, it was found that sociolinguistics, casting its gaze on the heterogeneity of the system, understands language as the place of change (which always presupposes variation). In turn, the Materialist Discourse Analysis posits language as a borderline object, given in the balance between the real of language and the real of history. Finally, the Dialogic Discourse Analysis understands that language has effective existence in the quality of sign, where dialogies relations come from.
