MORPHOLOGICAL COMPOUNDS WITH THE FORMATIVE -LOG- IN RAFAEL BLUTEAU'S VOCABULARY PORTUGUEZ, E LATINO, AULICO, ANATOMICO, ARCHITECTONICO, BELLICO, BOTANICO... (1712-1728):
SOME CONSIDERATIONS IN THE LIGHT OF CONSTRUCTIONAL MORPHOLOGY
Abstract
This article aims to describe and analyze, through Constructional Morphology (CM), a group of morphologically complex words called morphological compounds (Ribeiro; Rio-Torto, 2016) in Vocabulario Portuguez, e Latino... (1712-1728) by Rafael Bluteau, an important source for the study of the Portuguese lexicon. To achieve this, it takes as a basis the notions of MC scheme and inheritance (Booij, 2010; Gonçalves; Almeida, 2014). Due to the heterogeneous nature of the data collected, we decided to focus our study on compounds constituted with the formative -log-, such as bat-(o)-log-(ia), antrop-(o)-¬log-(ia), with the purpose of carrying out a more in-depth analysis of this type of process and structure. In all cases analyzed, the X-log formations can be represented by the generic scheme [X log]. It was also found that [X] is categorically associated with a nominal or adjectival root, and the product is always a noun. Regarding semantics, we note that the schemes in X-log have a highly specified meaning with no opening for polysemy or neologism, always referring to the notion of study, science, treaty and scholar.
