Abstract

The study addresses how the Amazonian imaginary is represented and discussed on Twitter, a social media platform known for its dynamic trends and ability to shape public opinion. The focus is on discursive analysis of trends (trends) related to the Amazon, examining how different narratives and representations arise and propagate. The research uses methods of discourse analysis and social media analysis to investigate tweets about the Amazon that become trends. The results indicate that the Amazon is often represented in two main ways: as a natural paradise and as a space of cultural diversity, influenced by imaginary narratives. There are conflicting discourses, especially in relation to environmental policies and the economic exploitation of the Amazon. While some tweets advocate environmental preservation, others support economic development, reflecting political and ideological divisions. Environmental activists and digital influencers play a crucial role in shaping trends. The analysis reveals that Twitter functions as a discursive space permeated by different views on the Amazon that are debated and disseminated. The platform allows the emergence of hegemonic and counter-hegemonic narratives, influencing perceptions and actions in relation to the Amazon region. It is perceived through the trends that acts as a reflection of global concerns about the Amazon and a channel for social mobilization. The complexity of discursive representations on the platform highlights the importance of social media in the construction and dissemination of contemporary Amazonian imaginary.
