The trajectory of the FSA from the perspective of the audiovisual self-sustainability project in Brazil

ABSTRACT:
The article discusses the trajectory of the Audiovisual Sector Fund as the main mechanism for the audiovisual public support in Brazil in the 2000s based on its major operational logics over three periods, or three acts. These logics are manifested through rules that guide access of national independent production companies for the resources of development of works. The periods/acts are: 2011-2016 (Dilma Rousseff government); 2017-2022 (Temer and Bolsonaro governments); and 2023-2024 (first two years of the 3rd Lula government). The relationship between each period, the rules established, and the project of a self-sustainable audiovisual industry defended by Film National Agency (Ancine) is the heart of the discussion. The analysis is based on official documents published on the Ancine website.
