Abstract

No mundo atual, as identidades de gênero que não coincidem com as características biológicas de macho e fêmea e com um desejo heterossexual são consideradas ambíguas e até aberrantes. Essas identidades "ambíguas" não têm forma de ocupar um lugar social legitimado, o que leva ao sofrimento de muitas pessoas que não se adequam aos modelos normatizados de homem ou mulher. Desde a década de 1920 em diante, a sociedade ocidental tem procurado soluções na área médica, proporcionando formas de modificar o corpo segundo os desejos. Este artigo questiona que esta seja a única solução possível, já que a autora pensa que a verdadeira solução estaria na libertação desses modelos e expectativas, rígidas e compulsórias, e na possibilidade de que cada um viva livremente sua própria identidade singular.
