Abstract

The right to stable union between individuals of the same sex has been allowed in Brazil since 2011. However, in 2023, after many years of intense right-wing advancements in the country, the Chamber of Deputies decided to approve a bill – still in progress – that once again prohibits the marriage between individuals of the same sex. This situation exposes the scenario where LGBTQIAPN+ individuals being socially authorized to enjoy the supposed benefits of cis-hetero individuals is nothing more than a way to maintain the inherently flawed social structure. The cis-hetero-monogamous family institution is one of the tools for sustaining capitalism, and attracting more individuals to this machine becomes politically strategic, despite the politically inclusive veneer. In this article, we reflect on the inadequacy of institutionalization and the belated need to contemplate ruptures.
