Gendered machines: an analysis of the tardis in Doctor Who

Abstract

This research aims to answer the question: Is it possible to find in the TARDIS character the same symbols that we find in AI digital assistants in other science fiction content? To answer this question, the works of Judy Wajcman (1998), Michelle Perrot (2007), Teresa De Lauretis (1987), Laura Mulvey (1973) and Serge Moscovici (1961) were used, together with an analysis of the anthropomorphized character. The conclusion is that it has codes that maintain stereotypes of women in science fiction and audiovisual in general.
