DESAFIANDO O “ÓDIO BRANCO”: racismo e antirracismo numa comunidade operária nos Estados Unidos

A ascensão de lideranças nacionalistas e autoritárias como Donald Trump, Viktor Orbán, Marine Le Pen, Matteo Salvini e Andrzej Duda, para não mencionar Jair Bolsonaro, em diferentes contextos políticos nacionais, parece ter revitalizado a empoeirada tese do autoritarismo operário popularizada por Seymour Martin Lipset no início dos anos 1960. Tanto na academia quanto na imprensa, nunca a narrativa do “ódio branco” da classe trabalhadora como suposto eixo estruturador da ofensiva da extrema-direita em escala global foi tão popular. Nesse artigo, problematizamos essa interpretação à luz de uma etnografia operária construída numa comunidade onde vivem trabalhadores que votaram majoritariamente no político que encarna o protótipo da atual liderança nacionalista e autoritária: Donald Trump. Para tanto, buscaremos destacar as relações entre processos de precarização do trabalho, a adesão de trabalhadores a projetos nacionalistas e autoritários, e o suposto racismo dos trabalhadores, a fim de interpretar transformações no comportamento político dos trabalhadores em contextos marcados por uma aguda crise sociorreprodutiva.
