Abstract

Objective: to identify the depressive state and ideation among elderly people in long-stay institutions in the cities of the region of Seridó/RN. Method: cross-sectional and descriptive study, developed between the months of August and November 2020, in Long-stay Institutions for the Elderly. Results: of the 45 elderly in the group, there was a greater number of females, 64.4% aged 80 years or more. As for the depressive state, there is a quantity of 46.7% of elderly people with mild or moderate depression, 20% of elderly people with severe depression, and 33.3% of elderly people without depression. a total of 16 seniors. Conclusion/Final Considerations: the findings show a high prevalence of mild to moderate and severe depressive symptoms, possibly due to the length of institutionalization and marital status. As this is a cross-sectional study, there is no causal relationship between the factors studied and an actual clinical diagnosis.
