Abstract

Objective: this research seeks to characterize the social representations of teetotaler alcoholics about alcoholism; in addition to analyzing the implications of these social representations for the maintenance of abstinence. Method: the study was descriptive, using a qualitative approach. For the interpretation of the results, the Theory of Social Representations, created by Serge Moscovici, was used as a theoretical contribution. The present study made use of the ATLAS.ti software, version 22, a posteriori technique of Thematic Analysis The present research was approved under opinion No. 5.204.858. Results: the emerging social representations of the individuals researched, I evidence every aspect of becoming a carrier of a mental illness such as alcoholism, from its onset to abstinence from social interactions in Narcotics Anonymous. Final considerations: this study contributes to the knowledge of the social representations of individuals who consumed alcohol and became problematic alcohol consumption.
