Objective: to evaluate the knowledge and acceptance of larval therapy among healthcare professionals and patients with hard-to-heal wounds in the city of Maceió, state of Alagoas. Method: the study was conducted at a Medical Care Center specialized in wound treatment. Semi-structured questionnaires were administered to healthcare professionals and patients, in addition to medical record analysis. Questions and potential acceptance of the therapy were recorded. Results: a total of 36 healthcare professionals and 24 patients were interviewed. Most professionals (88.46%) and patients (91.27%) were unaware of the therapy and its functioning. Among professionals, concerns stood out regarding contraindications and immunological risks. Patients expressed fear about the presence of larvae on their bodies. Nevertheless, 70.83% of the patients and 55.55% of the professionals demonstrated acceptance of the therapy.
Conclusion: the results point to the need for greater dissemination of larval therapy and its inclusion in the curricula of health-related academic programs.
