Abstract

Academic spin-offs are an important mechanism for promoting innovation and transferring technology developed in academia to society. As this is a fairly recent phenomenon, some gaps remain on the subject. The aim of this study is to carry out a bibliometric review of the related literature on academic spin-offs. In order to achieve this objective, a search was carried out in the Scopus database of abstracts and academic articles published between 2010 and 2023. After three stages of selection, 82 publications remained in the period, which were analyzed using the Bibliometrix and VOSviewer tools. The main results indicate a predominance of publications by European and North American authors and institutions. In addition, it was found that the stages for setting up a spin-off in academia vary according to the context in which it is located and the type of technology being developed.
