Abstract

Electronic equipment, due to rapid technological innovation, becomes obsolete in a short period of time and is then discarded. Technological patent prospecting allows you to monitor the development of new technologies and support management decisions. Thus, the objective of this research was to identify innovations applicable to the disposal and treatment of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) through patents. For this, the Orbit Intelligence software and the National Institute of Industrial Property database were used. The results indicated that the majority of patents come from China, accounting for 63.5% of filings and surpassing countries such as the USA, France and the United Kingdom. Examples of patents include CN113953300, which proposes a disassembly and recycling device, and CN113617788, which uses plasma technology for recycling. In terms of ownership, 68% of patents belong to private institutions, such as JX Nippon Mining & Metals, while 32% belong to universities, mostly public.
