Abstract

The biofuel production, in particular has been getting some attention from the scientific community for many decades, with intense production of knowledge and protection of Technologies. An investigation of the main producers of knowledge and patents on the biodiesel production chain can contribute to the design of new research and identify future challenges. Scientific papers carried out a brief bibliometric and patent review on the biodiesel production chain using the Scopus and Orbit platforms, limited to the year 2021. It was possible to show that the main players in the production of technology and academics on biodiesel were China, the United States, India, Korea and Brazil, with intense production from the 2000s onwards. Brazil occupies a prominent position in the quantity of academic works, however with some challenges regarding the production of patents, since the largest volume of patent production is carried out by public companies, educational and research centers, as well as international companies, not being Brazilian private company gifts.
