As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The contribution is original and unpublished, free from plagiarism, and is not under evaluation for publication by another journal. Otherwise, the situation must be duly justified in the “Comments to the Editor” field. If a violation of this nature is identified either prior to or after submission, the manuscript will be archived/rejected and the author(s) will be barred from the journal’s submission system.
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx).
  • The text is formatted with 1.5 line spacing, Arial font size 12, and margins set to 3 cm (top and left) and 2 cm (bottom and right), with paragraph spacing before and after set to 0 (zero).
  • At least one of the authors must be a doctoral candidate or hold a doctoral degree. The remaining authors must, at minimum, be master’s students, hold a master’s degree, be doctoral candidates, or hold a doctoral degree.
  • The text complies with the stylistic standards and bibliographic requirements described in the Author Guidelines section, available on the About the Journal page.
  • There is no author identification in the manuscript file, either direct or indirect, in compliance with the anonymous peer review system.

Author Guidelines

Authors must observe the following guidelines:

  1. Scientific articles must be submitted exclusively through the website
    https://periodicos.ufba.br/index.php/revdirsex/index.
  2. The contribution must be original and unpublished and must not be under evaluation for publication in another journal or periodical. If a violation of this nature is identified either before or after submission, the manuscript will be archived/rejected and the author(s) will be barred from submitting new manuscripts to the journal.
  3. Manuscripts must be prepared using Microsoft Word word processing software (.doc or .docx).
  4. A maximum of 3 (three) authors is permitted per article. At least one author must hold a doctoral degree or be enrolled in a doctoral program; the remaining authors must be, at minimum, master’s students, hold a master’s degree, be doctoral candidates, or hold a doctoral degree.
  5. All articles must include a title (in Portuguese and in a foreign language), abstract (in Portuguese and in a foreign language), keywords (in Portuguese and in a foreign language), introduction, development, conclusion, and list of references.
  6. Manuscripts written in Portuguese, English, or Spanish will be accepted. Submissions in other languages may be accepted subject to prior editorial consultation.
  7. The submitted manuscript must not contain any author identification.
  8. The article must be between 15 and 25 pages in length, including footnotes and references.
  9. The text must be formatted in Arial font, size 12; justified alignment; 1.5 line spacing; paragraph spacing before and after set to zero; and first-line paragraph indentation of 1.25 cm.
  10. Direct quotations longer than three lines must be presented in a separate paragraph, indented 4 cm from the left margin, without quotation marks, in font size 11 and single-spaced.
  11. Pages must have left and top margins of 3 cm, and right and bottom margins of 2 cm.
  12. The title must be presented in font size 12, bold, and centered.
  13. The abstract must contain a maximum of 250 words, with single spacing, justified alignment, and font size 12.
  14. A list of 3 to 5 keywords must be provided, in alphabetical order and separated by semicolons.
  15. Within the body of the text, terms in foreign languages must be italicized, except for proper names or terms already incorporated into the Portuguese language.
  16. Direct and indirect citations must be indicated exclusively using the “author–date” citation system (example: Cunha, 2018, p. 30). Footnotes are permitted only for explanatory purposes.
  17. References must follow the most current version of ABNT NBR 6023; be listed in alphabetical order; aligned to the left; single-spaced; with one blank line (enter) between each reference.
  18. Only works effectively cited in the text must appear in the reference list.
  19. Submitted articles are the sole responsibility of their authors and do not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of the Research Group on Law and Sexuality and/or the Faculty of Law of the Federal University of Bahia (FDUFBA).
  20. Authorization for the use of illustrations, images, tables, and similar materials obtained from other publications, as well as any licenses or approvals required from copyright holders, is entirely the responsibility of the authors.
  21. At the time of submission, all authors must mandatorily complete the “Author Biography” field on the journal’s platform, objectively indicating their academic degree (starting with the highest), professional activity, and contact email. This information must be provided exclusively in the submission metadata and must not appear in the manuscript file, in compliance with the double-blind peer review system.
  22. For additional guidelines and formatting requirements not listed in these instructions, manuscripts must comply with the standards of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT).
  23. Receipt of the article does not imply an obligation to publish it. Once the evaluation process is completed, the author(s) will be informed of the decision regarding acceptance or rejection.
  24. The evaluation will be carried out by members of the Editorial Board and by permanent or ad hoc reviewers, internal and external, under the double-blind review system.
  25. It is the responsibility of the authors, as an integral part of the submission process, to verify compliance with all requirements established by the journal. Submissions that do not comply with these requirements, including formatting rules, will not be evaluated.
  26. The Journal of Law and Sexuality reserves the copyright of the published work jointly with the authors. By submitting an article to the journal, the author agrees to the free assignment of publication rights.
  27. Authors bear full responsibility for the ideas and concepts presented in the submitted article and agree in advance to any editorial or typographical corrections made by the editors.
  28. Any cases not covered by these guidelines will be resolved by the Editors and/or the Editorial Board of the Journal of Law and Sexuality.
