PERSECUTION AND VIOLENCE AGAINST GAY PEOPLE IN NAZI GERMANY, IN THE CONTEXT OF THE 2nd WORLD WAR

Abstract

The persecution of gays during the Nazi regime and in the context of World War II is still a topic neglected by academia. With this monograph, we aim to understand how and in what ways gay men were persecuted in Nazi Germany before and during World War II, and to show the various forms of violence and humiliation they suffered in the Concentration Camps, where they were identified with a Pink Triangle. The theme allows us to revisit the Nazi experience and the War, exploring an angle of observation that is practically ignored in the field of International Relations. In theoretical terms, the persecution of gays was analyzed based on queer theory, which allowed us to understand the reasons for the persecution practiced by the Nazis, who considered homosexuals a threat to the morale, unity and strength of the German army and society. The method used was qualitative, with the use of bibliographic research techniques.
