Abstract

Homosexuality has been discussed in different areas of society and in the most diverse fields, such as politics and
religion. This article addresses the issue of a “cure” for homosexuality, topic that has generated much controversy and that
goes beyond the scientific field. We carried out searches in the LILACS, SciELO, PePSIC and Index Psi Technical-Scientific
Journals databases, using the combinations: Gay cure AND psychology, Homosexuality AND psychology. The searches
returned 76 articles, of which only 6 remained after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results show that the issue
has been discussed and defended by religious ideologies that defend conversion therapies supported by pseudoscience,
completely diverging from the psychology that disallows any type of therapy aiming to promote a hypothetical “gay cure”.
