Objective: to analyze the role of male obstetric nurses in obstetric nursing care from a gender perspective. Methods: this was a qualitative study carried out with obstetric nurses. Data was collected online through semi-structured interviews via videoconference. The data was analyzed using thematic analysis. Results: Two thematic categories emerged: insertion into the obstetric nursing work area intertwined with gender roles and daily work in obstetric nursing: difficulties and challenges related to gender. Final considerations: Male obstetric nurses face the reflection of cultural and social factors that impact on their insertion and work in the area of care for women in the pregnancy-puerperal cycle.
