"What are we going to do with this ecological memory?" - Ailton Krenak

This interview with philosopher and indigenous peoples' activist Ailton Krenak,conducted on August 20, 2023, is an adaptation of a dialogue that constitutes partof the ethnographic research data presented in the doctoral dissertation“Monitoring Socio-environmental Changes: Ecological Memories in the SãoFrancisco Delta”. The dissertation was defended in 2025 at the Graduate Programin Anthropology (PPGA) of the Brazilian Federal University of Bahia. On thisoccasion, guided by questions concerning memory and ecology, Ailton Krenakbroadens the debate on these two categories from a decolonial perspective thatfluidly intertwines the understanding of nature and culture in light ofAmerindian perspectivism.
